Vegas Results & Pics
March 24, 2008

This is a press release excerpted from Throwdown (www.throwdown.com).

The inaugural XFA (www.xfalive.com) event at the Las Vegas Hilton last night was very impressive and with all the fighters throwing down, the XFA definately lived up to its billing as a "stand up, knock 'em down or knock 'em out" event. The XFA: Xtreme Fighting Association is a full contact stand up fighting organization produced & promoted by Reis Sports Entertainment.

The who's who of Las Vegas MMA community was in attendance and included Vanderlei Silva, Mike Pyle, Jay Hieron, John Alessio, Gina Carano, Kim Couture, Ken Hahn, Shawn Tompkins, Chris Hordecki, Scott Bieri, Gilbert Yvel, Heath Herring & Frank Trigg. Lisa King from Fight Girls & Ring Girls and Gary Alexander from The MMA Show were the commentators of the event and Alexander performed all of the post-fight interviews.

I had the pleasure of sitting in front of Mike Pyle and he gave the best comedic play by play I've ever heard. Although I can't repeat much of what he said to our PG-rated crowd, let's just say Pyle had everyone around him cracking up and should seriously be a stand up comedian when his fight career is over. Anyway, onto the fights...

The main event of the fight featured The Ultimate Fighter alum, Mike Whitehead, who was cornered by Shawn Tompkins, Heath Herring and Vanderlei Silva, vs Ethen Cox. Known primarily for his wrestling in the MMA world, Whitehead was very impressive with his stand up skills throwing flying knees and heavy hands. Whitehead controlled all three rounds and was victorious via unanimous decision.
