XFA2 – Best Show of the Night

June 1, 2008
By Michael M Perez

Though somewhat comparing apples to oranges, if you compared XFA 2 against Elite XC which was being televised nationally on CBS on the same evening, the fighters/fights XFA 2 presented extremely outshined EXC.

In the first bout, David Smith landed a knee strike on Marcelino Menchaca which resulted in a TKO win for David Smith and handed Menchaca his first loss as a professional kickboxer.

Lynn Alvarez and Catia Vitoria fought in the second match. Vitoria won via unanimous decision.

The third bout featured Kevin "The Soul Assassin" Ross vs Travis "The So Cal Kid" Garlits. Ross who trains at Master Toddy's in Las Vegas did a prefight interview with us (click here to watch prefight interview) predicted he would put on an exciting fight and delivered as the fight was non-stop action. Ross was able to send Garlits to the ground a few times and delivered some devastating flying knees throughout the fight. Ross won an unanimous decision 30-26.

In the fourth bout, Amy Davis (wo)man-handled Jodie Esquibel, who took the fight on short notice. Davis won via 30-27.

Douglas Edwards won a split decision over Jack Thames in the fifth bout of the evening.

Somewhat surprisingly, Mark Beecher lost in the second round to Mark Holst via TKO. Mark seemed to have an off-night as nothing seemed to work for the TUF 7 coach.

Shawn Yarborough ended Josh Hancock's night in the next fight as he knee'ed Handcock in the face and knocked out a tooth.

Fight of the night probably belonged to Miriam Nakamoto vs Sally Krumdiak. Nakamoto's height advantage definitely helped as she was able to keep Krumdiak at bay most of the time. Krumdiak was a true warrior however and never backed down. Nakamoto won 30-27.

The main event unfortunately did not live up to they hype as evident by the way the crowd vocally displayed it's unhappiness. Probably the only fight that was not filled with great action, Vernon "Tiger" White scored a victory against Anthony Brown.

Overall, the card delivered some great match-ups. It's unfortunate that most people stayed home to watch Elite EX because they would've enjoyed XFA 2 much more.
